What We Do
Rivers of Recovery represents a pro-active intervention. Our goal is to achieve lasting, positive changes in the lives of disabled veterans. This is done by helping our participants:
- Rediscover a meaningful purpose in life.
- Reconnect with themselves, their families, fellow veterans and nature.
- Rebuild a sense of empowerment, self-esteem and self-confidence.
- Achieve success through learning and accomplishment.
- Recognize their competence and capabilities.
Our mission is to provide our participants with a rehabilitative experience which leads to specific outcomes:
- Facilitate acclimation and ease transition to civilian life
- Improved attitude and increased optimism
- Improved sleep patterns (and reduced dependence on sedatives)
- Improved interpersonal relationships:
- Spousal
- Children
- Friends
- Increased ability to contribute to family and community
- Equip veterans with unique ability to “self-apply” proven therapy
- Improved employability and productivity
- Broadened support network (fellow veterans, volunteers)
- Tangible progress towards recovery
- Reduced suicide rates
- Reduced drug and alcohol abuse
