Letter from the Director Thank you for visiting the Rivers of Recovery (ROR) website. We provide participants with a productive atmosphere where they can learn, succeed and find encouragement and friendship. Inspired by a sense of responsibility to our men and women in the military, a group of people from vastly different backgrounds came together to design and implement an innovative program for our service members. These united efforts have produced a one-of-a-kind program which incorporates magnificent surroundings, enjoyable experiences, a connection to nature and camaraderie that can only be found in our great country. “How does catching a 20 inch brown trout help someone?” The answer lies in the intangibles: a sense of accomplishment, a boost in confidence and increase in sense of empowerment - attributes that are identical to those required in meeting life’s everyday challenges. They are even more valuable to those of us dealing with physical disabilities, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). ROR participants become members of our family. They witness the beautiful splendor of the Green River and Red Canyon while learning life-long skills. Each day they are surrounded by fellow veterans, supportive volunteers and other new friends. Every night the group enjoys a delicious, home-cooked meal and time to share the day’s experiences. Our program is uncomplicated and it has proven to be incredibly successful. We have big plans for the future, starting with hosting over 120 veterans and soldiers on our Green River fly fishing trips in 2009. So please stay for a while and explore our website. You will find pictures and stories from our programs, information on who we are and how you can help. If you know of a veteran who could benefit from our program, please contact me. And remember, my “door” is always open to anyone with suggestions, ideas or feedback. Best regards,
Dan T. Cook
